TROPIKI is a dream that started in 2009 in the bathroom of the founder Tipharah where she shot her first set of YouTube videos chronicling her natural hair Journey. In a desperate attempt to find the right products for her hair, she decided to experiment and make her own being inspired by ancient and sacred beauty remedies. Only to discover a love for soap making and the never ending source of healing ingredients nature had to offer.
We launched TROPIKI in March of 2020 when the pandemic hit Jamaica. Retail stores were focused on covid19 related products so we had to become our own retail store and launched through our website. This turned out to be a blessing as we were able to immediately reach an overseas market. TROPIKI is still here and we have so much in store for 2022 and beyond.
Our approach is beauty with a purpose to heal. Beauty rituals are sacred as they are to serve mind, body and spirit. They are healing rituals for women and modern women need healing...increasingly black women need healing.
Black women have been victims to marketing campaigns by brands that profit from our low self-esteem and lack of self-love. These toxic relationships have made us mentally and physically unwell through generations. If the goal of our beauty ritual is to look other than ourselves, it must be an unnatural process and is most likely an unhealthy one. We are changing the narrative to include black women in wellness.
